DRAin out the blood, to bring forth new life.
After 4 years slugging it out in the local doom scene, Master Leonard called it quits - deciding to play a final show on July 2024, adding in drummer Chris Stabback (Spirit Valley, Faker & OILS) to go out in a blaze of glory.
The show proved there was still life in the Leonard, it just needed the defibrillator of new blood, and a stronger rhythmic core.
Taking 8 months off to delve deep into the writing and rehearsal room, Master Leonard re-emerged with an album’s worth of material, and a hunger for the stage.
ML came ripping out of the gate, taking swings at all the old haunts, annihilating every Sydney venue they could, leaving in their wake a slew of new fans, and converted old ones.
In September they released their Colony // Bloodfather double-single, utilising the skills of Wade Keighran (Taking Sides, The Scare, Wolf & Cub) on production duties and receiving a savage mastering by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Blood Incantation, Cavalera Conspiracy et al).
The release showed a bloodthirsty Leonard, with renewed urgency, undeniable swagger, and relentless aggression. Unhinged vocals and chainsaw riffs sparring with doomsday bass tone and a relentless artillery of drums made for a brutal first release back. The Leonard had been taken off life support and given a shot of adrenaline right to the central nervous system.
Supporting Portland’s UADA later this year set their boots further in motion down the path to glory.
